FAQ & AFTERCARE
Q: What are eyelash extensions, and are they safe?
A: Eyelash extensions are applied to natural eyelashes in order to create an enhanced appearance of fuller, thicker lashes. They are made from a variety of materials such as synthetic silk (PBT polyfiber), faux mink (acrylic PBT polyfiber), real human hair, or real mink or fox fur. In support of animal rights, Atlantis chooses to use only 100% man-made materials. Human hair and real animal fur can be highly allergenic, and does not naturally hold a permanent curl. Synthetic lash extensions are a hassle-free alternative for those who wish to ditch the mascara and create a natural longer, fuller lash with the illusion of wearing perfect smudge-free mascara! Eyelash extensions are safe, and when applied properly using the correct lengths and widths, are non-damaging to natural lashes. They can be worn by women or men for special events or for every-day wear.
Recommended for age 16+.
Q: How are eyelash extensions applied?
A: The application of lash extensions is typically a very relaxing and simple process that can take anywhere from 1 – 2 hours depending on the service type. Each lash extension (anywhere from 50-100) is professionally applied 1mm from the eye lid lash line and bonded to a single natural lash with medical-grade adhesive that’s weightless and non-irritating.
Q: Are eyelash extensions permanent?
A: Lash extensions are semi-permanent meaning with proper aftercare, they will stay in place until they are shed along with your natural lashes. Eyelashes go through a 6-7 week growth and shed cycle. On average we have approximately 70-100 lashes per eye which shed anywhere from 1- 5 lashes per day. Your lash extension will follow the natural shedding process of the real one.
Q: How often do I need to have my lash extensions replaced?
A: I recommend having your lash extensions re-filled approximately every 2 to 3 weeks. Fills can be extended through 4 weeks depending on the health and growth and shed cycle of your natural lashes, in addition to the maintenance and aftercare of your extensions. 5+ weeks (completion of 4 weeks) will require a new full set.
Q: Can I use make up and make up remover with my eyelash extensions?
A: YES. While mascara will no longer be needed, you can still use water-based / oil-free eyeliner, eyeshadows, and oil free makeup removers. I would also recommend avoiding glycol based products which can break down the medical grade adhesive used to adhere lash extensions to your natural lashes. Glycol is often found in make-up removers, some soaps and face washes. Be sure to check labels!
Q: How do I maintain and care for my eyelash extensions?
A: After your new lashes are applied, keep them dry for the first 24 hours. This will help the adhesive set and keep the lashes in the position in which they were applied. It’s also recommended to sleep on your back, or your side. This is important directly following your application, to allow the adhesive to fully cure. After 24 hours, wash your lashes daily with a gentle cleanser, then brush and fluff! Always pat your lashes dry after washing your face/eyes. Do not rub excessively. Avoid using manual lash curlers, which can damage the extension along with your natural lash. Avoid oil-based products around the eyes, as well as any facial or chemical peels which can cause the eyelash extension adhesive to break down and dissolve.
Q: Are there any restrictions to my regular daily activities?
A: No. There are no restrictions to showering, swimming, working out, or sunbathing with the exception of keeping your eyelash extensions dry for the first 24 hours after application. Please note however that lashes are made from a synthetic PBT polyfiber. This means that direct exposure to any high heat source (grills, ovens, candles, cigarettes, campfires) may cause your lash extensions to “melt”. Preserve your beautiful extensions by avoiding close contact with high heat.
